sheff71
Currently BBC weather are predicting Heavy rain from 3pm onwards for Sunday in S9, so don't forget your brollies It's a little unfortunate that it clashes with two of the biggest annual British sporting events - the F1 at Silverstone and the men's final at Wimbledon... as far as the coverage it will get nationally. shilling
So if the roads are left open 'til say an hour before the riders come thro, What would happen if there was an incident or accident just as the roads were about to be closed? Could it be guaranteed to be cleared by the time the riders arrive, not forgetting the Caravan which arrives around an hour and a half before the race? The TDF is closely timed and the route has to be safe and clear. The organisers who will have the ability to re-open roads earlier if possible if the areas are deemed safe to do so. I would imagine it would be pretty much the same as if there were an accident whilst the roads are closed. I imagine there is a far greater chance of an accident happening amongst the tens of thousands of folk climbing around dry stone walls than are likely with car driving on the roads. smiggs
But luckily we`re good at cycling! We're good at driving round in circles. Plenty of practice on Sheffield's road system. The coverage is live on ITV1, it's going head to head with Wimbledon and F1 a real test of the popularity of cycling in the UK.

It's not the only measure though...what would be the conclusion from comparing the live attendance between events, or the number of regular partcipants in each sport. 999tigger
More bothered about the weather forecast being poor and that will deter people from coming out.

Maybe Welcome to Yorkshire should look at what other big events they can host - The Kentucky Derby at Donny Racecourse? Indy 500 round Park Square Roundabout? A leg of the Paris-Dakar Rally through Rother Valley? If Yorkshire can be a part of the Tour de France...

Jenergy
New double yellow lines outside the shops in Nether Edge Rd are the only indication of the bike fest round here. Now where are we supposed to park?
byeo
More bothered about the weather forecast being poor and that will deter people from coming out. It may stop some locals but the die-hard TdF fans from around the country will be there still.
