2014 Tour de France will start in Yorkshire and come to Sheffield

It's not as big as the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia or the Spanish one.

It's not, but how would not hosting the start of the Tour make the Tour of Britain any bigger (or indeed smaller) event?

That's like saying we shouldn't have hosted the Olympics because it's more popular than the Commonwealth games.

Of course not, but it can be a great advert to sell the area (just like it does for the French countryside).

Exactly. Yorkshire has fantastic countryside and I think we sometimes take it for granted. Getting it viewed by millions around the world and especially in the near continental nations should give a real boost to tourism outside of the direct impact of those coming to watch the event.

When I first heard about this I thought great Leeds is finally been kicked off to France.

On a serious note how the heck can they call it the tour de france when its in the UK. What next Edinburgh fringe festival in Bradford?

So we are going to have dozens or twerps in lycra riding on bikes around the city?

Still its no different to any other day, even on Peniston Road, we get the Lycra idiots cycling on the road when there is a perfectly good cycle path for them to use.

If these prats really need to have a race on their bikes, can they kindly stick to the cycle paths?
