2014 Tour de France will start in Yorkshire and come to Sheffield

Officials are also planning ‘legacy events’ where cyclists will be able to ride parts of the route through Sheffield.

Richard Wright, executive director of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, said: “The impact on hotels and hospitality will be great but they don’t have a lasting effect.

“We would like the council to examine ways to ensure the tour provides a long-term boost for the city, too.”

If their ideas of 'legacy events' are similar to that of DVS, does that mean they're going to dig the roads up again after a year? :hihi:

So if the council are plunging £900k of their (our?) reserves into this event, are they also ways to ensure at least that amount of money comes back into the council coffers, rather than just to hoteliers and taxi drivers who have raised up their prices because of demand? Is it right the tdf doesn't come through the city centre, in the planned route?

Shame they didn't decide to keep the DVS open and in decent nick until this event, it would've been a good finishing point, and also a good memory to finish it on before closure and demolition...

The York to Sheffield stage of the race will come into Sheffield through Bradfield, across to Oughtibridge and Grenoside, then down to Kelham Island.

Cyclists will then head back out before a final stage up the challenging Jenkin Hill, at Wincobank, then loop back to the arena.

So now we know which areas will be bumped to the top of the list to have shiny new pothole free roads before the two wheeled warriers arrive in sheffield.

It looks like they've already started... which is a bit silly since the winter will stick big holes in them again.

Hagg Hill and Stephen Hill have already been resurfaced. How about a little hill climb section there.

Where does everybody intend watching this?

Outside a pub in Bradfield (Old Horns?) would be nice, but I'm tempted by a few jars outside the Cow and Calf up Grenoside.

Kelham Island would also be good, but I could imagine it will be rammed around there.

Regards

Then the start could be anywhere in Yorkshire except Sheffield.

If I don't know where the starting point is located in this big county of ours, then Its not clear to me.

It's in South Yorkshire, of course.

But the quotation in bold is not otherwise wrong. The Race will:

a. start in 'Yorkshire'; and

b. come to Sheffield.

Will you be going to Yorkshire to see the race.
