moan,moan,moan....some reet moaners on here....traffic disruption, cost of policing, cost of road resurfacing, media hype etc etc .... you forgot to moan that grass is green.

Sad thing is,if our council had declined to stage the TDF, the same people would be here moaning about a backward thinking council, lost opportunities, why we can't be like Leeds etc

Serial moaners

There not even going into the City Centre because its a dump which is why its finishing at the Arena.

So its nothing to do with the with the large number of support vehicles, the escort cars , the enormous team buses and the trucks and other logistics then?

Add to that the broadcasting vehicles and press from all over the world. I imagine that's a whole lot easier to base at the arena.

I remember all the moaning and whinging we had when the city centre was closed down for the Tour of Britain finishes back in the 2000s.

Oh, they will come OK! I was born in Sheffield, but have lived in Australia since 1965. I have made several visits back to UK in recent years, as I have family in the area still.

As soon as I knew that Yorkshire had managed to secure the 2 stages of the Tour, I started making plans. I will be spending at least 3 weeks of my trip in and around Yorkshire. Have already booked a week in York, will spend at least 5 days in the Peak district and about 8 days in Sheffield.

This means that my wife and I will have to pay for at least 2 weeks accommodation and meals in the area, car hire and lots of shopping. This is going to cost me at least 1500 pounds spent around the area, and double if you add up the rest of our trip in the UK. You can multiply this by at least 10,000 overseas visitors, that's 15 million pounds and that is a conservative estimate. Then add all the English visitors, even the Sheffielders will be spending their brass! Yes, it will be a massive economy kick to the region so be there, and give a lovely Yorkshire welcome to the visitors.

  • 3 weeks later...

Apart from two places the route seems the same as the initial draft route that was published. The changes I can spot are:

- from the BP garage roundabout on Herries Road / Moonshine Lane the initial route would have stayed on Herries Road, down to Fir Vale past Northern General, to Page Hall and then onto Holywell Road. The route now changes from the roundabout so it heads along Shirecliffe Road, Burngeave Road and Savile Street/Brightside Lane

- At the bottom of Newman Road the initial route was to turn left and then right at the lights to go under the two low bridges at the bottom of Fife Street before turning right up towards the M1 roundabout. Now it turns right at the bottom of Newman Road, left at the lights down towards the Travelodge and Park & Ride car park entrance

Like I have mentioned before about Jenkin Road, that dog leg bend area will be where the riders will feel like they are trying to push there bikes up a wall with their cranks welded to the frames.:wow:

I reckon they should close the Meadowhall side north bound lower deck of the viaduct for use as a viewing platform for the day. The Meadowhall Road section around the back looks a bit bland and pointless, the route should go around the east ring bring the riders out front with meadowhall in the background from the viaduct.
