Doom
They were saying on Radio Sheffield this morning how poorly Sheffield are promoting this. According to the guy they were chatting with, he said this event is being heavily promoted in Leeds and right across the region where the Tour travels, apart from Sheffield where the publicity seems to tail off. Even Penistone has adverts all over the town and a Tour de France information desk. Is Sheffield in danger of missing out financially due to lack of publicity? Regards Doom

If you were an alien visiting the City you would have no idea the worlds biggest bike race is arriving in a few months time.

I've seen TdF stuff all over Yorkshire, except in Sheffield. Seems very strange and slightly worrying.
Flanker7
I agree - worrying. Sheffield seems to be devoid of enthusiasm for anything. Is it because budget's are tight? Except for 'Activity Sheffield' banners which seem to be everywhere.
byeo
Is it because budget's are tight? Can't be, can it ? They can afford to sort out the condition of the roads on the route yet fail to advertise it ?
DYKWIA
I heard someone in my office talking about a TdF shop which is opening up in Meadowhall. If you were an alien visiting the City you would have no idea the worlds biggest bike race is arriving in a few months time. It's not a few months anymore, it's now just a matter of a few weeks. 6 weeks on Sunday to be exact. Apart from a few road side posters dotted here and there you wouldn't think one of the biggest sporting events in the world was happening in our city in a few weeks time. Mad Hatter
Welcome to Yorkshire haven't exactly been complementary (in private) about Sheffield's commitment to the TdF. All rather disappointing, and illustrative of the attitude towards cycling endemic in SCC

All rather disappointing, and illustrative of the attitude towards cycling endemic in SCC You only have to read this forum to gauge the feeling against cycling in Sheffield. If a cyclist is not paying road tax they should not be on the roads and all these Johnny foreigners using our roads for free should be sent home. Thank god we have UKIP to sort it all out now.
