davyboy
Whatever you do DO NOT use a pointed knife to get the ice off the coils. You may puncture them and it'll be new fridge time. On a slightly different note wrt the use of a cold hair drier. You can defrost food in a fan oven with no heat just the fan on.
Afilsdesigne
I'm with Skinz on this on. Turn the freezer off, pack towels in the bottom and blast with a handheld steam cleaner. Cleans a treat, especially around the door seals that get so grubby.
Bypassblade
I use one of them hand held steam blaster jobbies. Defrosts and clinically cleans in one go. We used to use the steamer method, but had to buy new one as other very old, so bought one that now no longer freezes ice all over it. I can recommend the steam way as skinz says as it sanitises as it defrosts.
jfish1936
Steam's good! Every gram of steam that condenses on the cold parts gives up 540 calories to become water at 100 deg C., giving up 80 more calories to cool down to 20 deg C Every 80 calories of this melts 1 gram of ice. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latent_heat
iansheff
I can empty the freezer and have it defrosted and wiped out and back on within an hour using the jet nozzle on the steamer.
