Got flights from Virgin, hotel direct from their site, and got transfers via the airport site at JFK. Worked out quite a bit cheaper. Booked well in advance though. Would recommend air bnb where you stay in a locals home and they help you about. Check tripadvisor for hotels, etc. AVOID craigslist. It is illegal in NYC to lease/rent without a license and most people arent licensed. Generally its cheaper (airport tax-wise) to fly into Newark, rather than JFK and Manchester has loads of direct flights into Newark as well. March is a quiet time in the City, and the weather can be mixed from snowstorms to temps in the 20s, though the later is not such a normal occurrence.
