More cash in hand work? Exchange of vouchers for cash? Lost revenue in tax from fags and acohol from benefit claimants? Maybe we could trial it first with MP's for their expenses and food allowances? geared
Good idea really, although I'm sure the majority of people on benefits are completely sensible with their money. It's the minority that tarnish everyone with their foolish actions.
chem1st
Be a good way of forcing up food prices and depriving government of revenue. Be careful what you wish for...
Bolster
If someone on benefits chooses to drink and smoke no amount of legislation will stop them. All that will alter is the way in which they obtain the booze and ciggies.

Do it with food, and the same will happen. We would also be depriving small business of income and forcing people to shop at supermarkets.
Penistone999
You force people to spend money on housing, like the government have, and you ensure minimum rents. Everyone has to pay rent or a mortgage( unless they are lucky enough to have enough money to pay for a house outright). You cant have a house free of charge , even though im sure you would like that. poppet2
Crazy. The cheapest fruit & veg is in markets. Market traders won't accept these cards so the govt are effectively making those on benefits pay more for their fruit & veg etc.

Market traders won't accept these cards so the govt are effectively making those on benefits pay more for their fruit & veg etc. In turn, putting the small businesses out of business, removing competition and allowing the supermarkets to increase food prices. ---------- Post added 19-12-2012 at 18:20 ---------- Everyone has to pay rent or a mortgage( unless they are lucky enough to have enough money to pay for a house outright). You cant have a house free of charge , even though im sure you would like that. Rent maybe, mortgages no. Mortgages are a relatively recent phenomena. People should be allowed to build. People should be allowed to grow food. People should be allowed to trade. The government should not be subsidising rents, nor should it be propping them up and setting minimum rents (and in turn house prices).
I1L2T3
I sense another government IT screw-up brewing. Or in other words I sense a large IT firm lobbying for the business of implementing a new IT system for the government. It's pointless. The system won't work anyway. People will get their rationed items and then swap em for the stuff they really want. ---------- Post added 19-12-2012 at 18:22 ---------- Crazy. The cheapest fruit & veg is in markets. The government knows what's best.
molly44
its a good idea especially if they take the VAT off of those essentials, it would make the money go a lot further. and why not extend that into fuel bills?. it would save people from freezing
