Swampster
I know.. instead of having all the rigmarole of having some kind of loaded card system and all the necessary IT gubbins needed to run it.. which would cost millions.. why not just make all the benefit claimants stitch something like a big symbol to their clothes with the letter B for benefit in the middle of it, anything large and obvious would do.. like a bright yellow star or something. This system would mean they can use any trader.. so nobody's business will suffer and all the traders can easily identify the benefit scroungers recipients and know what they're allowed to serve them with... jobs a good 'un! Cheap as chips to run... Still it won't save the country any money (but that's not really the agenda anyway so it doesn't really matter), as they'll still get the same amount of cash to spend as they do now.. but they will only be able to purchase specific things that the government decides they're allowed to have.. donkey
Tony Blair is nothing to do with this thread. You may as well make a comment about the mating habits of a dung beetle as that. Kindly stick to the thread or start a separate one. Tony Blair only has nothing to do with this thread if you fail to recognise that the people at the top of the political establishment (including the ones who like to go on about dole cheats) are all of the same ilk. Some adopt a more liberal stance than others for public consumption, but behind the scenes they are all on the same page, and there is definitely nothing left or liberal about it. donkey
You answer questions with questions I see. "Is there a point to your comments?" is just rudeness in the guise of question. A genuine question would have gone more along the lines of: "What is your point?" or "What are you getting at?"

Maybe I should ask you which questions I should ask:(
Shogun
It would be a very good idea if all essential goods were not taxed at all. Even though fuel poverty is becoming very serious the tory boys are still taking their pound of flesh in VAT!! Food of course is also taxed indirectly by the tory boys. Yes Vat should only be levied on luxury goods.
