Vague_Boy
What do you think? Is the usa our friend, can we trust them? The US government/military industrial complex? Let's ask President Dwight D. Eisenhower: In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together. LINK This was part of his Farewell Address to the Nation on January 17, 1961. The significance of his including this statement has been debated ever since. (Apparently he wanted to use the term "military-industrial-congressional complex" but was talked out of it.) Eisenhower was clearly in a position to observe trends that have sadly continued unabated to this day, despite his warnings. Can you trust the military-industrial-congressional complex that is the current US empire? Of course you can. You can trust it to be self-serving and destructive of individual liberty. Just like any other empire in human history. As for "an alert and knowledgeable citizenry", well we could certainly do with one that hasn't been conditioned in Pavlovian fashion to respond to any idea that deviates from accepted norms as "tin foil hat". Or would you describe Dwight D. Eisenhower as a "conspiracy theorist"? Sadly the only thing that most people are "alert and knowledgeable" about are soaps and X-Factor. I'd recommend reading Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance by American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, logician, historian, political critic, and activist Noam Chomsky. skinz
Outside the antics of our royals and Xfactor I don't think the average American gives a hoot if we are or not.
Harleyman
This whole thread question is plain stupid. Maybe I'll think about starting an equally stupid and senseless thread "Is France secretly planning to invade Britain"?

callippo
What if I want them to be Mexicans? you don't have to want. A lot of them are Mexicans anyway (about 70% of the currently 17% of the USA's 300 plus million people that are classed as 'Latinos'). There are about as many Mexican Americans as there are black Americans and pretty soon they'll be plenty more.
