Tony
A report called Christianophobia by Richard Shortt says that Christianity is being systematically eliminated in certain parts of the word and that Christianity 'close to extinction' in the Middle East. Apparently some oppressive regimes also fear that Christianity is a “Western creed” being used to undermine them. From the Telegraph: The “lion’s share” of persecution faced by Christians arises in countries where Islam is the dominant faith, the report says, quoting estimates that between a half and two-thirds of Christians in the Middle East have left the region or been killed in the past century. State hostility towards Christianity is particularly rife in China, where more Christians are imprisoned than in any other country in the world Christians in India have faced years of violence from Hindu extremists. In some areas of Burma the government has clamped down on Christian protesters by restricting the building of new churches. Are you concerned that Christianity is being wiped out? Are other religions or regimes oppressive? Should all religions be eliminated?
Mecky
Indonesia is now becoming one of the biggest countries of opression with Christians being forcibly denied access to church.
skinz
Christianity has a very dark past..not a particularly bright present either. Should all religions be eliminated? Nice thought but not at the expense of eliminating those that believe in it.
Vague_Boy
So why is this happening now? Shortt's account identifies several causes, from Christians being caught up in political upheaval, made more complicated by Islamic fundamentalism, to the belief that Christianity is an imported vehicle for either Western values, or Western expansionism, or both. Given that the illegal Iraq war was instigated based on known lies (Saddam did not have ties to 9/11, there were no WMDS) by avowed Christians (Bush, Blair) it's hardly surprising is it? George Bush: 'God told me to end the tyranny in Iraq' Tony Blair believed God wanted him to go to war to fight evil, claims his mentor Is there no way these murdering war criminals can be excommunicated in order to remove their odious taint from the ranks of Christianity? Rand Hobart
Muslim oppression and murder of Christians (and many other religions for that matter) well predates the Iraq wars and 9/11. Its nice for them that they now have something that they can blame.
