What is your definition of a chav ?

Recommended Posts

I have seen before that people have very different views on this subject but want to know finnally what is the definition of a chav ?

What is your definition ?

I personally think its someone like vicky pollard off of little britain ! :hihi:

Vicky is a caricature so not a helpful starting point, rather like Loadsamoney being a model for greedy plasterers.

To me its the underclass. Those people who are unemployed making no attempt to get a job and spending time at home drinking, smoking and breeding. You see the types on the street corners. If you watch Jerremy Kyle you see them on every eppisode.

And they cannot spell-episode for example:hihi:Worse still they are unaware of their stupid demeanour.

For me they are ignorant, rude and stupid people who have a great sense of entitlement. They invariably 'know their rights' yet seem oblivious to the rights of others. They only seem to come in 2 sizes: the pinched, thin, rat like one, and the vast wobbling type that boasts fold upon fold of unsightly flesh which they will insist on having oozing out of their skin tight leggings/jeans/short skirt/hideous tracksuit bottoms (delete as appropriate)

I just love 'em.

I think you have spent too much time watching Sheffields got Talent.

Why do people feel the need to call other people chavs?

Think of it as a type of shorthand. It's a lot quicker and easier than describing all the unpleasant components that go to make up someone worthy of the title every time one wants to refer to one.

It is therefore a little indiscriminate, and possibly dangerous.Your preference for ease and speed confirms that it appeals to the lazy, the less articulate.

It's not actually a term I personally often use, but when I do, the people I'm addressing are inevitably people I know well, and who therefore understand the type of person I'm referring to.

It's no lazier than say using 'pedant' to descibe a person who is obsessed with formal rules, or who wishes to make a show of their knowledge or who obsesses over minutae.
