DireStraitss
Sorry to say Sheffield is no longer the great city for entertainment as it was. All the good pubs and social clubs have long since served up their last orders. It has become a ghost town now for any one over the ages of 25-30.I have all ways been a great fan of painting the town red after working a 40 hour week, but there is not any where decent . I am not a fan of wine bars i like what we had in the 70s-late 90s. If you do find any where thats good for the over 40s please let me know love. I will be there like a flash It has become a ghost town:))) Finally I found somebody who has the same idea:)
TJC1
It has become a ghost town:))) Finally I found somebody who has the same idea:) I completely agree. Nobody has offered a decent argument for sheffield nigthlife, probably because its absolutely ****. 'Just because its sheffield and I live here' seems to be the main crux of the for argument . Pathetic.

SheffBloke
The nightlife in York blinds Sheffield, I'm 40 (in fact i went to York for my 40th night out with mates), the places and choice there is far far superior to Sheffield. Sheffield was a great place for a night out late 90's early 00's but has rapidly declined since and now i wouldn't put it in a UK top 10 now

Been a regular visitor to York since 1988 - been around 150 times since then - and the pubs and bars are magnificent. From traditional pubs like Thomas's, Golden Lion and Spread Eagle, to medieval places like Trembling Walls Of Madness and Roman Bath; to champagne and wine bars like The Biltmore, you're just spoilt for choice! Then you've got kooky places like Evil Eye and the brilliant Guy Fawkes Hotel (all candles and dark corners). Add the sound of a million different languages (kind of) and all the other attractions, the rivers, the walls, the museums and restaurants, man, I seriously need to go back!! chem1st
To be fair, I'd say Sheffield offers more for the over 40s than the youth. The youth can't afford to drink and socialise anymore due to the burden of excessive housing costs combined with high taxes to pay ever increasing pensions. Statistics have shown the amount of young people drinking regular for entertainment has fallen massively, whilst the amount of older people has remained somewhat similar except for pensioners who are now going out MORE. My local pub is not a place for young people, it is full of pensioners, and so are the ones in town. If you want to socialise with young people you need to attend house parties, and there are quite a few circles of people who throw such parties and even have their own underground and garage bars etc. or you need to go to sporting facilities. I dare say you could open a temperance bar in Sheffield and it would be frequented by the youth, if the D&B, ginger beer and smoothies were cheap enough.
