Little Ed promises jobs for the long term unemployed

Recommended Posts

It's desperate stuff for sure. And it shows how devoid of genuine ideas Labour are, just jumping on the punishment bandwagon and highlighting a group that are a tiny fraction of the population of working age.

If they had put meat on the bones and said they will offer genuine training placements with full support to help people transition into a productive lifestyle then that would be great. But Labour say nothing about what these jobs will be or where they will be or what companies they will be with.

It just shows more than ever how none of the major parties can lead us out of this mess. If we ever recover it will be by luck or by accident.

False jobs are not the answer.

Amen to that.

IApparently it's being paid for by restricting tax relief on pension contributions available to higher-rate taxpayers, which according to the tories, labour have already earmarked.

Oh no, not another pensions tax raid!!!

Speaking of which when are the Tories going to reverse Gordon Brown's pension tax raid policies? Anybody seen any plans yet?

The Neo Cons continue their move forward. Whether its Lab/Lib or Con, their continuing of subsidising big business (this time with free employees), and take a hit at the unemployed, in order to get the right wing media slapping them on the backs is disgusting.

Why cant they look a little closer to home. Workfare can only work if the work is for the State, ie the people, who are in effect paying tax to pay for the safety net of employment benefit. Therefore, we should benefit here. Not Tesco's, Poundland or Greggs. And most certainly not companies who dont pay tax!

I cant believe that the state cant organise no end of litter clean ups areas, schools playgrounds that could be painted etc?

You know why the Govt dont think of ideas like this? Its because they have too many corporates running the show in Westminister now and they look after themselves whilst ****ting on us. This story is another divide & rule.

You're right on this point. The scheme is just free or cheap labour for private businesses. Labour seems to be afraid to expand the state other than where it's already quite large - NHS, spin doctors, political researchers. I get the impression that they're afraid of being accused to proposing something too grandiose in creating public sector jobs in case they get criticised for spending public money they don't have again. They don't want to put taxes up for longer-term projects and so come up with temporary gimmicks that will only really help some private businesses.

Obviously something you can't even begin to comprehend

This is a good chance for you to say why the Labour Party is proposing something good. Why not defend the substance of Miliband's proposal instead of just sniping at his detractors.

25 hours per week on minimum wage!! and then only for 6 months, and the government will pay. (So about £150 per week for 6 months) Sounds like Labour intend to subsidise the fat cats by giving them free labour. If the jobs exist companies should employ people properly - on decent wages. This scheme seems like a con to me - a fiddle to reduce the number drawing unemployment benefits but costing the taxpayer even more. Where have the REAL socialists gone? Labour are now conservatives in disguise.

Are you areal socialist? What would you propose?I think the wages are to be subsidised, not fully funded.
