Magilla
see here http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one "You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record TV as it's being broadcast." So clearly you do not need a license for a PC that does not have a tuner to recieve said broadcasts. Online viewing is not a broadcast.
dawny1970
so how am i able to watch F1 on saturdays and sundays when a GP is on LIVE, its still a broadcast be it online, but im sure those without a tv licence will enjoy arguing the finer points of how the bbc are wrong in court

Magilla
so how am i able to watch F1 on saturdays and sundays when a GP is on LIVE, its still a broadcast be it online Actually it's not, it's available online *while* it's being broadcast. Watching online is still not watching a broadcast (by definition). My error is in saying that because watching online isn't a broadcast then you don't need a license, you do if you watch something online *while* it's being broadcast. If you don't watch anything online *while* it's being broadcast, then you don't need a license for either a mobile phone or a computer. Hope that clears up the misunderstanding. dawny1970
quoted from bbc iplayer website "It is a criminal offence to watch 'live' television without a TV licence or to possess or control a device which you know or reasonably believe will be used to watch 'live' TV without a TV licence. You could be prosecuted and fined up to £1000 (plus be ordered to pay legal costs) for these offences." http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/playing_tv_progs/tvlicence
