Foreign students? is that it?
See above for explanation.

The point systems a joke. The only way I could get into Australia for example, would be to have a 'required' trade or profession. If not I'd need to invest £250,000 and start a Business employing people. Either way I would be of value to the country and contributing.

Australia does take asylum seekers you know, in fact more than we do, contrary to popular belief and they actually feed and clothe them too, so they don't have to go walkabout in the bush.

Yes, I just said Australia is built on and by immigrants but no I don't find it ironic. You're clutching at straws.

It's wholly ironic, although not relevant to this discussion.

Australia had the good sense to rethink the whole system once the country was populated properly it now has an economy which is almost global recession proof and is outstripping our own. Go figure.

If Australia thrives it's because they've become bedfellows with the Chinese and other parts of South East Asia, who it relies on heavily for debt, and trade. Unemployment's currently running at 10%, which is similar to our own.

I'm in playful mood now I have the big beast retep cornered ;)

Absolutely, I alluded to the 'myriad' of problems associated with immigration earlier, this might be one of them, but a few bogus colleges harbouring 'illegal' immigrants shouldn't detract from the tens of thousands of students who come here perfectly properly-study, pay a fortune for the privilege, then bugger off home.

Again I have to agree but unfortunately when dealing with one dimensional thinkers who have no interest in teaching the world to sing one has to address them with easily digestible, saccharine anecdotes.

I used foreign students purely because it's relatively easy to measure them as a cohort. We know how many they number, what they pay to study here and we can guesstimate what they spend to live.

They're likely to be younger people, therefore healthy (so not drain NHS resources), not have children (so not drain educational ones) and not engage in criminality.

*DISCLAIMER* Not all foreigners who come here to study behave this way ;)

Also a lot of them don't drink. They send money home as they may still be helping the family. The fees all go to the University i,e, they don't pay tax. And then they quite often spend money in chinese or asian shops because that's how they eat and live culturally!

e.g. chinese students in Sheffield. I don't have a problem with all this but...

HOW IS THIS HELPING THE BRITISH ECONOMY?????? the answer my friend is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind...

They pay £10,000 a year in university fees each.

Chinese shops are part of the UK economy too.

They also have to pay rent & buy all the other things that students buy. No grants or loans, it's money coming in from abroad & paid upfront.

Then some of them stay & use their skills in the UK.

Well I provided one comprehensive example (foreign students) including a link which totally rubbished retep's statement.

More interestingly, perhaps retep (or you) could provide evidence that immigration is responsible for 'crippling' and 'ruining' this country?

We do, the points system was adopted some years ago.

However don't you find it ironic that you're championing an immigration policy which was conceived and implemented by the offspring of immigrants. I don't recall the indigenous Australians ever being asked whether they wanted mass immigration from Europe.

Educating immigrant children costs '£13 million a day'

That wasn't a serious question surely.

What does that have to do with my sentence that you've highlighted? Foreign students invariably don't have children.

TJC, please sort your Australian visa asap and leave!

How are foreign students sending money home? They're studying here, not working!

The fees go to the university...which is a British institution, the employees of universities pay tax. The fees subsidise the tuition costs of our own students. Fees for foreign students range from £10,000pa to £30,000pa for courses like medicine and dentistry.

They may well spend money in Chinese and Asian shops, so do I and many other British people, but those shops are subject to UK tax laws just like you and I are and their owners are also spending money on British housing and other amenities.

You just twist and never listen,I think you are a very sad person who feels no love for his country I pity you,im not going round in circles with you AGAIN.waste of time.

I cant find the original posters in this thread. But first off, some said that because the Picts were the fisrt people in this country then only white people can be English. Ok then, white Anglo-Saxons come under the same classification as white Eastern European. In this case the Polish immigrants must also be classed as true English people. But then another poster, it might have been the same one, says that white British are becoming a minority in parts of England if you discount the Eastern Europeans. But, if we credit the white Pict tribes, then the white Ango Saxons and white Eastern Europeans should be given the benifit of being true English. Remember, the land the the Germanic people is next door to the land of the Poles.

But then, what about the Pre-historic history of this nation before the invasion of Saxons, etc? The nation was a place if Indo-European culture and language which means that a person like me (Punjabi) will have alot more culturally in common which the original people of the land, compared to Saxons.

BTW, someone mentioned people coming here for money? My parents were proud East Africans but the Sikhs were kicked out of East Africa by the dictator of that nation. Sikhs never thought in a million years that they would be forced to leave their homes. In 1972, people of Sikh origin were escorted by armed guards to board their flights. My late Grand father tried to take his family to India, but were arrested by the Indian border force and put onto the next plane to England. The conditions were horrid with tents in the airport field and no toilets, and each brown person from East Africa being rounded up and chucked on planes bound for England.

As I said, to the dimwits who think every darkie they see is a drain on the state it makes little difference.

Please tell your acolyte, retep. He brought pecuniary issues into the thread.

I don't know anyone that would fit that description.

I've never met anyone that would fit that description.

And I don't think anyone on SF would fit that description.

It appears to be all in your mind.

There are differences of opinion in which some people see the benefits of immigration but think the disadvantages out way those benefits, as opposed to thinking the benefits out way the disadvantages.

I for one think the disadvantages out way the advantages, if there was some way of getting the benefits from immigration without the down side then I would be all for it.

You seem keen to highlight how students bring in money, I'm highlighting how students take it out.
