Hi, I know you have stated you would like the dog long term, however would you consider fostering a support dog as they are generally labs. Currently we are looking for fosterers for 2 puppies which will be a 12month committment and foster carers for dogs in training that ca last from 4-12 weeks. See below for more details;

Support Dogs

"Training Dogs to Transform Lives"

Phone: 0114 261 7800

Email: Eleanor.brian@supportdogs.org.uk

Support dogs is a non-profit organisation that trains dogs for people with disabilities, epilepsy and children with autism.

Foster Carers

As we do not use kennel facilities for our dogs we are always looking for foster carers that can care for them during evenings and weekends while the dogs come in to "school" for training 9-5 Monday-Friday.

Where possible we will pick up and drop off the dogs at the home or place of work to fit around the foster carer. This is an ideal solution to a lot of our foster carers that want a dog but due to work commitments cannot take on the full responsibility of pet dog ownership. It also allows the foster carer to take their regular holidays - we arrange alternative temporary foster care for the dog whilst the usual foster carer goes on holiday or has other commitments.

Puppy Walkers

We are also looking for Puppy walkers that can take care of our new additions for 12months socialising them until they are ready for training. This is a full time responsibility as the dogs cannot be left alone for more then 4 hours, therefore those who do not work, work from home or are able to take the dog to work are ideal.

If you are interested in becoming a Support Dog foster carer or Puppy Walker please contact our center for an information and application pack.

Good Luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.

  • 2 weeks later...

I rescued a beautiful black saluki bitch from a backyard shed 4 months ago and am looking for a loving home for her. I have two other dogs and a cat, all of which get on well and share a sofa. We have had her vacinated and chipped and estimate her to be 12/14 month old, the vet says shes a smashing dog. I don't think she will grow any taller, but expect her to put on weight as her long and lean muscles develop. Shes been fine with the grandchildren, house trained and walks well on the lead. I'm reluctant to let her go, but if the right person comes along I will consider it. I have photos to share but will do so off line. Shes not a German Shephard but a grand and elegant dog who loves to cuddle up and if someone is looking for a lifelong companion I'm sure she will fit the bill. I'm at Aston, just round the corner from Woodhouse.

dsn, well done for helping that dog in need.

you could always put her on http://www.ineedahome.co.uk under private rehomings? just becareful with the sort of breed that she is who you let come see her. is she spade?

Make sure that she is, this could be a terrible life for her.

Try also advertising her on Lurcher Link some decent people on there if this isn't the right home for her.

sorry to steal the thread honest
