A new £50m leisure complex at Sheffield united is finally expected to get the go ahed after years of planning.

The new centre on the old Arnold Laver site Cherry street will include a casino, retail food and drink areas, health club and spa, indoor sports arena, kids play area and a museum containing the history of the club and the area of Sharrow. There will aslo be an intregated media area built on to the south stand (which is to get a much needed make over) and a hotel at the rear of the car park, a new car park will also be layed.

The scheme is expected to create 2,000 constuction jobs and 2,500 leisure jobs with regeneration money being ploughed itno the scheme it means jobs for the people of Sharrow and sheffield.

With the plans for the 'Las Vegas' style complex near meadowhall will the blades be better off concentrating on building something else like a cinema or bowling alley rather than a casino (these were in the original plans but never got chosen)?

Sorry if this has been brought up in the past but I couldn't find it on search.

There were no dates as yet, it was just an annoucment that the scheme is going ahed, I suppose to remind people they haven't forgot about it. I did for a while.

How did this get on the sports and activities? I put it in general chat as it's a major project in sheffield, it just inolves one of our football teams.
