stargaze
Shiregreen used to be a lovely area especially Low Shiregreen in the 1950's. Woolley Wood School only had one class for each year, so we all grew up together, before going to different schools after the 11+ Same with Firth Park. Used to all go there for the Whit Sing on Whit Monday and the park was full. Don't know whose idea it was for the traffic system there now, but it causes chaos. Was once a thriving shopping area. Like everywhere else now, run down. Such a shame

leftin60
Hi Joeemcon, Did Pauline Rawson go to Owler Lane Inter. A dark haired girl with a rather strident voice when she wanted. She used to make us "fusty firsts" take notice, I think she must have been a prefect if it is the same person.

I thought it was her you was talking about when you mentioned her voice .Did you live near her or just go to the same school ?
Norrie
Hello Timbuck, Only just spotted this old thread, I'm new to the forum. I was born on Oaks fold Avenue, 1934. I used to sit with a Terry Ashton at Hatfield House Lane,Junior School. He originally lived on Molyneaux Road. His father died while Terry was in year 4 at HHL, I was nearly as devastated as he was. In 1974 there was a Mrs Ashton living at 90 Oaks fold Road, but I may have the wrong Ashton family. I'm perhaps a fraction too early for your age group. Janner
Norrie, I was at the same school a couple of years ahead of you (born 1932) I remember it was a really good school. I lived opposite the school, my Grandma just a few houses away. The Head Mistress, to my shame I cannot remember her name, for years after I had moved on( Firth Park Grammar)she always asked my Grandma how I was getting along.
