flamingjimmy
But it is fact and statistics that women are safer drivers and have lower insurance claims so don't feel that it's relevant for it to be categorised as equality and discrimination. I am a safe driver and No claims bonus to show that and now going to be punished by an increase in car insurance for the pleasure. No wonder people drive uninsured! What if hypothetically it could be shown statistically that black people tend to have more accidents than white people? or visa versa? Would you be comfortable with black people paying more than white people for car insurance? or visa versa? ---------- Post added 18-01-2013 at 20:55 ---------- Equality is one thing but if its not in your favour its another. If equality is in anyone's favour then it's not equality, by definition.

Sorry, when I say equality what I really mean is equality of opportunity. I have no problem with skilled people being rewarded more for their work than unskilled people. I believe in equal pay for equal work, not equal pay regardless, and I don't believe in rewarding or punishing people because of generalizations that can be made from demographics they belong to, whether it's gender, race, favorite toothpaste brand, or anything else. Berkley
Maybe no one should voice their opinions then, no matter how strongly we feel because a petition won't help! This petition is for people who feel the same as me, not criticism Just pay it and make me a sandwich!
flamingjimmy
these so called statistics are nonsense. Women are safer drivers because basically more men drive than women. No that's not true, the insurance companies are not stupid, they understand statistics and are more than capable of compensating for that. Hell I'm capable of compensating for that and I've never studied statistics properly.

Equal pay for equal work is an example of equity, based on fairness rather than equality of outcome, which forms the basis of socialism.

No you have misunderstood socialism if you think the principle of equality of outcome is the basis of it. To each according to his contribution bro. This is all a complete tangent though, and has very little to do with the topic, you're reading things in my posts that just aren't there, I made no general point about economics. It depends whether you accept social democracy or democratic socialism,or even communism.Which of these do you believe is the real deal?
