Vague_Boy
HMV set to go into administration HMV expected to call in administrators within hours Clearly the government needs to call off its austerity program so that we can all afford that extra X-Box 360 game or a pair of Dr Dre headphones (Made in China). Or it could just be part of a long-term decline in the High Street?
No User Name
What time does Meadowhall close at? I would suggest anyone with a substantial quantity of gift vouchers to get down there and get them spent tonight.
gnvqsos
Very sad-I remember buying a couple of Al Bowley discs from the branch in Charing Cross Road,Pennis from Heaven and The Very Thought.
Expat owl
I don't think it's anything to do with austerity programmes but more to do with people choosing other, cheaper alternatives !! Sadly, it is just part of the high street decline because bricks and mortar can't compete with on-line pricing.
gym_rat
I bought a CD from the Meadowhall branch on Saturday, thats one CD in the last four years, one CD out of a couple of hundred albums bought in the same time. nature of the beast. dvp82
Comes as no surprise really, hasn't HMV been struggling for quite sometime now.
tinfoilhat
Oh and the rise and rise of asda and tesco selling CDs and games.
ECCOnoob
^^^^^^^ Agreed. Cant say im surprised at all. Amazed its lasted this long. They have been complete rip off merchants for years. Even 5-10 years ago I would look around HMV then nip off to Asda, Sainsburys or even Blockbuster Video to buy the same items much cheaper. Even well before the burden of the internet. Andys records, Our Price and Woolies were always preferred over HMV.
JFKvsNixon
HMV is using a failed business model, it has failed to adapt to a changing business environment so I'm afraid that this news was inevitable. Apple is making a shed load of money selling music, and rightly or wrongly this does seem to be the business model that works.
Penistone999
When you can download music and films for free on the internet , why would people buy it from places like HMV.? The Internet is a world of free music and free movies, That just the way it is.
