Leadhammer
yup we are to blame for buying online download it about time that online sales were regulated better inline with the high street store but lets not forget the bigger picture four thousand jobs at risk at hmv, not really worth the cost of an online album now is it, be it cheaper or not. Jotunn 68
I always buy CDs as I'm a nerd for having the artwork and booklet as well as the physical disc. It'll be a real shame if we lose HMV as it's the last of the big high street music retailers but it's been going downhill for some time in that sense. Many branches now feel like a computing and film shop with a music section bolted on rather than a specialist music retailer and the prices are pretty ludicrous compared with what you can get from the likes of Amazon and Play.com. I will miss going in for a browse though.
bassett-boys
I have to admit that even considering myself as a novice to modern technology mainly down to the fact I am not from the "computer generation" but never the less I own an MP3 player and this connects to both music systems in the house and car therefore I have no need for CDs any more. As an Itunes shopper I also generally find that new released albums can be picked up for £3-4 as soon as a month after release which is dirt cheap compared to CD days where you could still expect to pay £10 up to 6 months later. In summary, I don't miss CD shops as such however I do also have quite a bit of music on Vinyl, I have an old Pub Jukebox as well as vinyl's and I do wish Sheffield had a good few more 2nd hand record shops, that said I regularly browse charity shops and pick up some real gems for a couple of quid at a time. Nip up to Record Collector in Broomhill. I'm sure that they can satisfy your need to browse. Just bring plenty of time and a fair amount of cash:)
Guest sibon
Do they have a full stop shop in Meadowhall? Just asking:)
garrence
HMV is still there. HMV is likely to breach its banking covenants this month, which suggests it will be closing down soon unless someone want to buy it or the bankers keep funding it. That means "we are sinking fast" in laymans terms.
Penistone999
Good for him indeed. But my point was not about him, but the people who are convinced to buy expensive branded products that make others rich whilst simultaneously undermining their own wealth. Sort of economic Stockholm Syndrome. Of course buying goods makes others rich , weather that be Golfing Equipment or Cars or clothes. And yes, i dare say NIKE make a lot of profit on every item sold, but thats the way of the world. If people dont like what these multi Nationals stand for ,dont buy their products. Its that simple.
