yes all those scenes are millhouses park, abbeydale road at millhouses, and the station which used to be on Archer road. Probably all the filming was done within a few hundred yards.

Well done muddycoffee. The 'Roadtrip Movies' are well worthwhile for future generations. I have a 1960 video of The Wicker and Attercliffe. The filming was taken from the top deck of a tram. I really enjoy this, particularly going past Banner's, where I had a saturday job at that time. Oh how I wish there was a film in existence of that time showing the Wicker and the full length of Saville street. My full time job was at the massive Firth Browns steelworks on that street. The buildings are now 99% gone.

Regards, Peter.

I don't know if anyone saw the detail of this on "The One Show" at the beginning of this week.

The programme gave information about a film that they described as being the inspiration for other later silent films made in America.

The film title was "A Daring Daylight Burglary"

They showed two clips from the film, where in one scene ( that featured the burglar being chased by a policeman) the building of the police station on Archer street looked the same as the clip where they showed it as it looks now.

I hadn't heard this before and searched for some information then got a few more details from the Sheffield History site, which supplied a little more info about the Frank Mottershaw photo company who made the film, and a comment from someone who thought the film had been inspired by the Charles Peace Sheffield burglar and murderer who was later hanged.

.

More is mentioned to anyone who may be interested If you scroll down to post 25 on the link from there onwards.

Seems a bit unfair that Sheffield didn't turn into Hollywood.:)
