What a nasty piece of work :(

Once we had the stocks.

Public humiliation is feared far more, and is a better deterrent, than jail imho.

Given his previous convictions it doesn't seem to be working for this guy. Sparing him jail, when he seemingly was not shunned for his previous thefts, frauds and forgeries only teaches him not to pick disabled victims, not to stop being a thieving rat.

Also do we know he's actually a social pariah? We have his defense barristers account, but they are paid to get their client off with the minimum punishment, which they have by selling the judge this story which may or may not be true.

I agree but public humiliation isn't the same as in the past. We've become a nation of very self absorbed individuals. There isn't a sense of community any longer, how would an individual feel humiliated? Mostly the majority will cry "scum" and then continue with their fish n chips. In some circles it's considered part of your resume to have a bit of form.

In the past an offence like this if caught would be humiliating..going and doing time would compound that fact more so. Should we ever experience close nit communities like that of the past then your suggestion is worthy of some merit

The title is spot on. IMO If this women is not compensated within 14 days and a full unequivocal personal apology, then "The nasty piece of work" should suffer prison, if not suffer it anyway.

All this "he has suffered humiliation and lost his job" crap was most likely his briefs defense rhetoric. Maybe he should have considered "humiliation" before, rather than have to endure the experience after. Humiliation isn't a sentence, it's a psychological result of your own actions in relation to your conscience. Being as he committed the crime I guess conscience play a minor role in the way he conducts himself...obviously.

The system is a joke, I just read about the paedophile who fled to the Phillipines while on bail and instructed lawyers in London to appeal his sentence. They did they cut his sentence from 10 years to 7. Oh for someone like Judge Jeffries.
