Just e-mailed about this - a government think tank is considering making private companies providing NHS services exempt from taxes-eg;corporation tax and VAT.

This they say is to 'even out the playing field'- in other words so they can win tenders against trusts (who put money back into the nhs rather than share holder pockets)

Please read and if you are against this please follow link to put in your objections

(Can't help wondering if they'll be trying to take over charities next-after all they have free money that private companies could use better)

Update today, according to 38 degrees the panel have now said that after the large number of emails from the public opposing the idea they won't be recommending it. That's not to say they won't come up with other ideas.

Yesterday afternoon 38 Degrees members started to contact the government body Monitor to tell them that we don’t want private health companies to be given tax breaks. It worked. Monitor quickly changed their tune and announced:

“...Monitor will not be recommending that private sector providers should be exempt from paying corporation tax."
