Drilled through a light cable in wall. Advice needed please

Recommended Posts

Your two statements seem to be at odds with each other....

not at all.

capping is there to protect the cable during construction - mainly from the sharp edge of a plasters trowel and is made of thin plastic or galvanised tin strips, you can cut it with hand tools and offers no protection against penetration. For example -

or plastic

neither of which would be earthed

mechanical protection is something else entirely, for example

and

the second item would be earthed, the one before wouldn`t.

bet your glad you asked now, surely you wern`t trying to make me look silly?

I understand the terminology fine. The real query was if you did.

once again, your not trying to make me look silly are you?

if you understood the terminology then your comment at the top of the page doesn`t make sense.

stop trying to save face, your just digging a deeper hole.

No. As I said, you appear to be doing that all by yourself with your unwarranted abuse and belligerence.

ah - abuse allegation already, nice.

you jumped on my post and claimed two statements were at odds, you`ve been shown why they are not and you still can`t resist having a pop.

silly man.

To be even more pedantic, if the cable is in a safe zone then there is no requirement for mechanical protection....IET reg 522.6.101 (v).....
True, although can anywhere be safe when there's a 'man with a drill'?

cheaper? your not a sparks are you!

capping is there to protect the cable from the plasterer and to hopefully allow future replacement, never going to stop a drill but

I was forgetting about the cheap stuff. The conduit that I use would certainly stop a masonry bit, and most nails, although not sizeable masonry nails to be fair.
