Chris_Sleeps
Just to add a little extra into the mix. Political Scrapbook.net Labour MEP Richard Howitt told Scrapbook earlier: “UKIP will block EU cash going to support teenagers jobs and skills training in the UK, but seem happy to give the green light to funds, which will only be used to stir up hate by fringe parties.”

JFKvsNixon
You are, I can call the BNP a bunch of racist’s pigs but trying to deny them money that other party’s receive would be undemocratic. I'd hate to ask the the same question twice in the space of a couple of pages, but who is trying to deny the BNP money. Several posters may have criticised the funding, but I haven't read one poster that has tried to deny them money.
SevenRivers
"Nigel Farage's UK Independence party has told its MEPs not to oppose a package that would fund some of Europe's most extreme parties. The Alliance of European National Movements, a grouping of far-right MEPs, is looking to get £340,000 from the European commission, with a similar amount for a possible thinktank. The alliance includes Nick Griffin's British National party, Hungary's neo-fascist Jobbik party, Bulgaria's far-right National Democratic party and the Front National in France." From http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/jan/27/ukip-far-right So how does this fit with the oft-seen claim on here that UKIP is not right wing? I decided to do a little digging on this. The Guardian singles out UKIP for not lending support to the petition to withdraw funding from The Alliance of European National Movements. The petition needs the support of only 189 MEPs (25%). There are 754 MEPs. Only 12 of them are UKIP (less than 2%). As UKIP won't sign, that potentially leaves 742 others that could sign. Yet the petition so far only has 175 signatures. That would suggest there are hell of a lot of others as well as UKIP not signing the petition, including from the political groupings that both Labour and Conservatives belong to. MEPs join political groupings in the European Parliament. UKIP are part of the EFD grouping, which has only 35 members. Conservatives are part of the ECR group with 52 members. Labour are part of the S&D group, which has 189 members, so Labour's S&D group have enough MEPs alone to reach the required number of signatures. That would suggest Labour's socialist political allies in the European Parliament are not particularly supporting the petition, otherwise they would already have the 25% required. Several posters may have criticised the funding, but I haven't read one poster that has tried to deny them money. Last September the European commission announced new rules for the funding of pan-European political parties to ensure that EU money was only given to parties that observe the values of the EU, "namely respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality". A petition among MEPs that could halt the funding has attracted broad support, yet it has emerged that UKIP has instructed its MEPs not to support it. UKIP are seen to be gaining support so their opponents will do and say anything to put people off supporting them. Its a common tactic in politics unfortunately.
