UKIP to help BNP get European money

Recommended Posts

You're ignorance of the EU shines through again. This is about UKIP and its MEPs i.e. members of the European Parliament, not the Commission. You ought to learn something about the EU's different institutions before passing comment on them and accusing people of not being on topic.

It's about UKIP and it's MEP's intention to vote on rules made up by and imposed by the EU Commission. Perhaps you ought to learn something about the EU's different institutions before passing comment on them and accusing people of not being on topic?

The original article says in my OP link;

"The award can be scrutinised if 189 MEPs from at least three political groupings sign a petition calling for the president of the parliament to evaluate whether parties adhere to EU principles of "liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law".

The Commission has not imposed anything. Impose means to force something on someone. If they get a vote as to whether to implement it or not in whatever circumstances they choose, that does not come under the meaning of impose. They have the choice. It isn't forced.

Your knowledge of the EU seems to come straight out of the pages of the Sun. I should not have criticised your knowledge of the EU's institutions. I should have criticised that and your knowledge of English verbs.

The commission imposed the rule. The method for triggering an investigation into whether a grouping breaks the rule requires 189 MEPs to request an investigation. In the commissions head this makes it "democratic".

The rule is not imposed as it is subject to a vote. If you can vote on whether you can accept something or not, it can't be imposed.

Anyway, some good news for those who don't want taxpayers money given to Nazis. The 189 MEPs have been found and there will be an inquiry into whether the holocaust-deniers will be entitled to the money.

Its amazing that they found the time to deny any holocausts.

Well over the necessary 189 MEPs, from at least three different political groupings, have signed the request for funding review.

The request now goes to the Conference of Presidents (the leaders of the established political groupings and the President of the parliament) for discussion and is referred to the Constitutional Affairs Committee.

The Constitutional Affairs Committee appoint a Rapporteur and establish a committee of "Eminent People" to review the request.

The "Eminent People" committee (of which there will be 3 members) commence an investigation and will make a recommendation based on the current rules.

The Constitutional Affairs Committee will likely adopt the recommendation and then send it to a full vote of the Parliament

In the interim the Conference of Presidents has to decide whether to issue the money or allocate the funds but suspend the payment. We understand that the Socialists and Democrats Group are going to suggest this latter option but it is unclear whether this will be accepted.

I'm not happy about about the likes of the BNP even existing never mind being in the European parliament, but I suppose its democracy that put them there, and as they're a legally legitimate party theres no reason why they should be denied money that all the parties are entitled to.

Whether we like it or not there is a far right element in Europe but thankfully they're a minority. Parties like the BNP and front nationale are so ineffectual anyway so you and Hope Not Hate needn't get your knickers in a twist about them.

If people don't constantly keep up the work of getting their knickers in a twist about them then that's the time I'll start to fill my knickers, never mind getting in a twist about em.

THEY ARE DANGEROUS.

money that all the parties are entitled to.

.

All the parties are not entitled to it..they are only entitled to apply.

If they succeed in denying funding to democratically elected MEPs which then becomes available to some but not all, it will simply underscore how undemocratic the EU has become, and we will do right to exit such an institution.

The ultimate irony is that the people who claim to be defending democracy are really seeking to neutralise, nullify and delegitimise democratically cast votes and their elected representatives.
