Mr Bloom
No they do not. You are required to sign on every two weeks as part of your agreement with the Job Centre. It is clearly stated in the terms of your JSA that if you do not, you will lose some of your payments. Some people will use any excuse to bash the system, even when its obvious they know little if anything about it I know enough to know that what I said was true. I visit jobcentres regularly enough to know.

andygardener
a friend of mine has recently had his jsa stopped for 4 weeks for a missed appointment sanction.he did not receive any letters stating this was being done he just rang up to ask why his jsa had not been paid&they told him about the sanction.he was told that it could happen but not that it would happen.is this right that they can just do it without informing the person?how on earth do they expect anybody to be able to lose 4 weeks benefit & carry on ? If people don't show up for work do you think they just get paid anyway?
Bypassblade
I know enough to know that what I said was true. I visit jobcentres regularly enough to know. I go to the Asda every week it doesn't mean I can run a supermarket, WeX is right you sign a Jsag, Jobseekers Agreement. If you fail to attend an interview or an appointment you are in breach of said agreement, and the jobcentre can issue a sanction against you. If you can show "good cause" as to why you didn't attend it will go to a Decision Maker 1st, as has been said people are very quick to pull down jobcentre's and staff, but if people are genuine they ensure they get in touch and tell people of non attendance. You are required to sign on once every two weeks, is it so hard not to do this, is their timetable so busy, I doubt it. People are so quick to bleat I have had my money stopped, but forget to say oh I've done sod all in my job search I'll make some crap up. I base my findings of over 15 years working for DWP. Mr Bloom
I base my findings of over 15 years working for DWP. Do you still work there? Are you aware of the massive new drives to get people of JSA?
WeX
Do you still work there? Are you aware of the massive new drives to get people of JSA? Are you saying this person didn't break the agreement with the job centre to sign on every two weeks, the same as everyone has for the last god knows how many years? gnvqsos
I believe the person can claim an alternative means-tested benefit,so will not lose out.It will create another bureaucratic episode wasting even more money, possibly more than the benefit forfeited. That will remove a few smirks from the smug. I thought the job center was supposed to check the job search details? if they are not checking its no wonder they put anything on their.

His best course of action would be to go shoplifting to keep himself. The police do not turn up now even if the shoplifters are caught on CCTV or physically restrained by security staff. I would not advise him to do it, but that is what I would do in his position.
