Why do children have to do homework?

Recommended Posts

Forgive me, but I'm not familiar about the US schooling system, just as you Buck don't seem to be too familiar about ours, but what should the driver have done - stood the bus there until somebody turned up?
The American school system demands that the school bus driver appointed to a certain route with students he or she is familiar with is required by law to stop at an assigned place close to each child's home and drop off to a parent or other relative the driver is also familiar with. This applies to all chidren of elementary school age. If not the driver has to return the child to school at the end of the trip to await pickup. When we visited some of our grandchildren in Florida we were not permitted to pick them up from school until we had obtained a pass to do so. No I do not know how its done in UK. I was allowed to walk to school as far as I could without any escort at all. But that was a long time ago, though there were enough perverts roaming the streets then too. They didn't own cars though. That makes a difference.

He should not have abandoned the child. This may have been a repeated event involving another child as well. I reported the event as I had every right to. I would have thought any of you would have done so too, given a similar situation especially if you're the parent of a school age child. But then this is the Sheffield Forum, so why am I not surprised at your attitudes.

Why post the details on a public forum, then tell us to mind our own business?

I think I speak for all on here in saying that we were quite happy in our ignorance of this episode until you decided to tell us all about it.

I don't remember telling you to mind your own business, unless your name is also downhiller. but I will tell you PERSONALLY to do so now.

Don't have a go at me, all I asked was for more clarification on the story. There wasn't enough information in your post for me to make a judgement on whether your calling for his sacking was right or wrong.

In my job I'm taught that the priority is always the duty of care for the student, regardless of how it inconveniences you.

Once again, my response was not directly aimed at you. You asked a reasonable question and I answered it to the best of my knowledge. I aimed a generic response at SFers who think they know more about our situation than we do. I was an Area Manager for many years, and seldom had to resort to firing, and hated it when I did. Mostly it was to do with consistently causing dangerous actions involving the possible death or serious injury of the worker or other people.
