Joggit
Suicide rates rose significantly in 2011 due to tory policy. They probably see think that it means that their policies are having the desired effect. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21141815

Joggit
As a percentage it's lower now than in 2001 when Labour were in power.... The suicide rates have declined under Labour and begun to rise rapidly under the tories. The graph in the link shows this very very clearly. You are attempting to pick out a single stat to distort the truth. The graph shows the big picture.
Happ Hazzard
Labour threw tons of money at people, knowing that it could not be sustained long term. If anyone has blood on their hands, it's them. In reality, governments are not to blame for people committing suicide. It is up to people to be self-reliant, and view any help they get from the state as a nice temporary bonus, not an entitlement that they come to view as their right and rely upon. And you think picking a couple of yeays of Tory government isn't being selective? The trend on the graph shows a general decline in the numbers..no matter who is in charge... Joggit
If a government introduces very punitive policies that drive people to despair so that they feel that there is no viable alternative then the blood is on the hands of that government. This is very much the situation with this government. There is much more pain to come for the poor, while the rich will continue to mock their plight and fill their coffers. ---------- Post added 30-01-2013 at 14:37 ---------- And you think picking a couple of yeays of Tory government isn't being selective? Joggit
Nope..look at the increase around 2006/7.. But the trend was still downward. Now it is very much steeply upwards and will continue to be.
Fivetide
Are we sure the increase wasn't a short-term spike of Liberal Democrat voters?
