Happ Hazzard
They would not have cut so deeply so soon . They would be now enjoying the massive extra tax intake from people working in proper jobs and the deficit would have been halved. What "massive extra tax intake"? What "proper jobs"? How would the deficit have been halved so quickly while at the same time not cutting so deeply so soon? And who was it that created the deficit in the first place? Labour knew what they were doing, and they knew that the Tories would have to make cuts and that they could blame them for it. The Labour party are the evil ones here. Joggit
So explain the 2006 / 2007 spike. That was just a temporary blip, NOT a trend like the one that we are seeing now.
truman
No. The trend since 2010 is very steeply upwards. Now lets have a think...what happened in 2010? "The ONS accepts that some increases could be down to changes in statistical recording and death registration In 2011, there were 889 suicides under the new rules and 772 under the old ones" From here http://blacktrianglecampaign.org/2013/01/23/alarm-at-rise-in-uk-suicide-rate/ looks like they are reporting it differently as well... ---------- Post added 30-01-2013 at 15:05 ---------- The tory policies were beginning to tell causing the spike. Then Labour got in and down the trend went again. Labour had been in power for nearly 10 years by this time...

You know the answer to those questions as well as I do. The tory bankers caused the deficit.
Happ Hazzard
No, Labour caused the deficit. They spent more than they had coming in for years before the financial crisis. And the bankers could not create a government deficit. Only the government can do that. Banks are private institutions.

EASTWOOD141
You have no evidence to prove this. There was an upward spike in 2007-08, which went back down. I wonder if you'd be as quick to blame Labour if they were in power. You won't be saying that soon when your tory pals lay you off.
DYKWIA
That was just a temporary blip, NOT a trend like the one that we are seeing now. Nice edit of your post And here's me thinking Labour where in government between 1997 & 2010.
Riche
As a percentage it's lower now than in 2001 when Labour were in power.... Give to em pal. Statistics. Lets all blame someone else for our failings.
