epiphany
I am a working class Tory. I believe in working hard and getting on in life, not sitting back and blaming others for everything. Funny how you ascribe those very noble qualities to the historically loaded word Tory. Classical liberals (who were by no means conservative) espoused those very same views. In fact, so did the Ricardian socialists of old (albeit within a different market system to ours). In fact, I believe it wouldn't be out of character for an anarcho-capitalist to share those exact sentiments of "working hard" and "not blaming others". I suppose what I'm trying to ask is - what else specifically makes you a Tory, aside from those qualities which are shared by countless other ideologies? Imagine if there was another axis on the political spectrum.

Obelix
Yes thanks, I am. Why? Because it fits with my mindset - work hard, accept presonal responsibility and stand up and provide for yourself, it's not the Govt.s job to provide for you - it's the Govts job to provide a country where you can provide for yourself. Vague_Boy
And if so why? Don't be shy I used to be a working class Labour supporter, now I'm a political atheist. People on here may mistake me for a Tory because I'm constantly undermining their fantasy of "four legs good, two legs bad" (evil Tories, fluffy Labour). In truth, there's not much between any of the three parties. Ditto the Republocrats in America. As columnist Gerald Warner put it, "You couldn't put a cigarette paper between these Three Stooges". Or come up with 'Well you have to consider what Labour did Zzzzzzzzzzz' Yes, facts are annoying aren't they?

Yes, facts are annoying aren't they? Agreed to a certain extent. But! Tell me honestly - did you do badly under Labour rule?
