ell-tee
Can somebody explain to me how these work? For instance, I heard if a job agency finds employment for a company, they usually acquire 15-40 percent of their first years wage, is this correct? How do they in the first place, approach companies to say they'll find them the perfect match?
andygardener
Some work on fixed fees, some on a percentage of annual salary (this is paid by the company not taken from the employees actual wages). All the good ones have sliding scales of refunds if the employee leaves within a certain time period.
willman
I registered with 2 recruitment consultants who approached loads of companies within my current expertise and offered them my cv. However i think most agencies contact every company in the world asking if they have any jobs going and can they put candidates forward.

willman
That's what I thought. So this is basically how my Job Agency will be distributing my CV I think thats the case normally - the agency claim to sort through the applicants and provide a short list of candidates for the company. ricgem2002
someone i know was employed through a agency then taken on by the company (on the books) the company didnt pay the agency a penny. i think it was something to do with the new legislation coming into force (regarding being a job offered full time) imo i think agencies should be regulated and companies should not be able to run a workforce on temporary workers who in turn have very little rights regarding redundancy/pensions etc. these agencies were set up as a temporary stop gap and are now taking over work places all over the country. truman
Are we talking recruitment agency or employment agency..the former advertise jobs with other companies and introduce candidates to them..whoever gets the job will be paid by the company..in the other type (I may not have named it correctly) the agency gets the job and then employs people directly to do the work so the employee works for the agency, not the company..hope you understand.. andygardener
However i think most agencies contact every company in the world asking if they have any jobs going and can they put candidates forward. Some do, but I've certainly found in the past that sector or at least specialism specific agencies will only get in touch about openings that may be of genuine interest. Shogun
I run a small HGV driving agency the first thing is to get the drivers to come in and we have a look at what licence and experience they have, when the customers ring in asking for a driver we have both of their information and we fit the drivers into the position we feel they would be best suited to, most jobs are temporary covering drivers holidays and absenteeism, the pay scale is usually similar if not a bit more than the regular drivers get, drivers can be self employed or on the books, some drivers prefer to work for agency's as they like the flexibility others come because they need the experience I personally try to look after my drivers its very hard to get good drivers and if you upset them they go somewhere else, all agency's are not the same though and it all depends on the skill level of your job working in factory's and production lines is not very good through agency's being an unskilled job there are a lot of people who will want to do that kind of work its a sort of come and go thing as the agency's have a load of people to pick from. Have they banned paragraphs at your agency? :-) When I was contracting the Agency took a percentage of my hourly rate and when I was taken on staff they took a percentage of my first years salary.
