Closure of Saga Zone forum

Recommended Posts

But over-50s group Saga has been forced to shut its network site down because it cannot 'afford' the man power to police 'offensive' comments.

I'm shocked that forums have to resort to this. Especially as this forum helps the elderly correspond with friends online

It's for the over-50s. Some people in their 50s are nasty sods. And some older people are nasty sods too.

Once you start using a site like the Saga Zone you don't turn into a nice cuddly old dude dishing out virtual werthers originals. If you've been a reactionary right-wing homophobic racist all your life you aren't going to magically change because you join a site for the over-50s. In fact for some it could be a platform to act in the ways they always they always wanted to but could never get away with in real life.

If the right "controlled everything" why is the site being closed?

Nearly all forums are biased to the left. Try getting banned for having leftist opinions!

Because it was the people with the right wing views who were being offensive. Unless you don't consider advocating violence, homophobia and racism to be offensive, of course.

It's a forum for adults, senior citizens in fact that have lived through all sorts. It shouldn't need policing at all, if people can't go on a forum without crying onto their keyboard because they're offended, they shouldn't go on there. Go play Wii bowling instead.

Being offensive to who? The professionally offended?

The left cannot accept anyone with views contrary to their own, without crying about being offended and demanding censorship.

It's not that people were offended it's the fact that if any one dissented from their views they were criticised and hounded.
