Tony
You appear to be easily offended, which is rather at odds with your opinion that people should be able to handle being offended.
alchresearch
Except on Sagazone it was the Right who controlled everything. Anyone who didn't agree with hanging, flogging, sending immigrants back where they came from, beating children and taking benefits off everyone (except pensioners) was a piece of scum and should be told so in no uncertain terms. That's why the site has closed, not because liberal lefties were allowed to have their say. Sounds like the DM messageboard, or the Vine show on R2. SevenRivers
You appear to be easily offended. Don't know what gave you that impression unless you think stating ones opinion equates to being offended.
Tony
Ah OK, so you're just trolling. No problem, nothing to see here, move along. So what do you think about the point made? But so what? Saying that is like a Miss World contestant wishing for World Peace. People obviously can't handle being offended, so a community needs measures in place to make life pleasant for the masses. That applies online or in real life. Robust discussion is one thing, but trying not to say things that would win you a smack on the nose in the pub is a reasonable standard to expect to comply to. SevenRivers
Ah OK, so you're just trolling. No problem, nothing to see here, move along. So what do you think about the point made? Not trolling. Is that a usual response when you can't argue a point very well? The smack in the face assertion isn't something I'd normally expect from somebody such as yourself, implication being some people deserve to be assaulted. But if the smack in the face is a metaphor for forum moderation, it depends what the smack in the face is for. People don't expect to be assaulted for doing nothing more than voice an opinion, no matter how strongly they word it, so why would they expect to be silenced online? If people are being racially derogarty though, they might expect it, or in online world, expect a forum ban for it.
woodmally
If the mods left Sheffield Forum I'd give it about a month before the place became unusable. Decent posters would leave as the rabble took over. The number of threads about Muslims would go through the roof. By your crazed logic, the police should only deal with juvenile crime as adults, who "have lived through all sorts", shouldn't need policing at all. Well no actually there would be one long thread about Islam and people would also be free to talk about Gypsies. I've noticed the gypsie threads keep getting deleted.
