Cyclists - Using Cleats For The 1st Time

Recommended Posts

don't leave it till the last minute before disengaging. The point at which you are at a standstill and trying to balance is too late. Get your feet unclipped as you are approaching a junction, while keeping the foot still rested on the pedal. As you stop, you just lower that foot to the floor.

And learn to have one dominant foot with which to unclip and stand and one that is always attached to power off on. That way it is all likely to become more second nature

Why not just use normal pedals?

They allow you to pedal faster in a lower gear which puts less pressure on your knees than travelling at the same speed using a higher gear whilst pedalling more slowly.

They keep the ball of the foot on the pedal this promotes a better pedaling action known as ankling,i fitted toe clips on my bike does the same job.

allow you to peddle faster? sorry but LOL what are you on about - talk about broscience.

to the person asking, they allow you to "pull" on the upstroke - thus doubling the effort and they make sure each peddle stroke is as efficient as possible

The leg would not produce the same power on a pull as on a push so the doubling of power theory goes out the window

Can you find the cleat? Some can't!

A rather dull example of the way you re-cycle (no pun intended) the same sexual joke on different sites.

Not good on a family forum, especially from a mod. Do us a favour and get some help for your unhealthy obsession with female body parts.

This is perhaps the clearest explanation.

They definitely make cycling more efficient. OP, sorry you came off (sounds really painful), but once you get used to them, trying to ride without them will feel very clumsy and wasteful of your energy.

Persevere!
