altus
So we have to wait until people start dropping down before we can ban it but if the boot was on the other foot the situation would soon change. No, we have to wait until evidence of contamination is found. Suppose banning was allowed based on a suspicion of contamination. Do you really want the French to be allowed to say 'We think British produce is contaminated and we are going to ban it, even though we have no evidence of any contamination, until you prove it's not.'? alchresearch
Good point, did anyone know that Russia recently ended a 26 year ban on British beef and lamb? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/russianow/business/9706000/russia-british-meat-ban-lifted.html
truman
it seems its just the huge comglomorates who are responsible for this, ie; Findus and the massive supermaket buyers that source their goods from ANYWHERE to get the cheapest price to maximise their profits. Has ANYBODY complained about a local butcher selling horsemeat as beef? Ive heard nothing. Could this be the kick needed to get people to buy locally from independant butchers, rather than packaged crap from Tesco/Asda/Etc? Has the problem been found in anything other than processed food? WeX
No, just France. They would do the same and have done in the past ignoring the EU tool

I suppose all those people on this thread calling for a ban on meat from abroad will now be calling for a ban on all meat from England and Wales too. Halibut
We should ban anything potentially unsafe. Knives, cars, beer, fags, cheese, where would you like to start?
