Milliband announces his budget

Recommended Posts

In 1998 the UK didn't have a budget deficit at all [LINK] yet by 2006 (before the financial crisis) Hamish McRuin was already running record deficits [LINK].

If everything was going so swimmingly in 2010 it make's Labour's loss of that year's general election of bit of a mystery doesn't it?

Deficit is manageable and not really the problem as Osborne admitted, but don't let that stop the tories in their bouts of bullying, which is what they always do when in government.

Nor do I think Labour really lost in the election in 2010 because nobody really won, which is why we have a coalition. It was a close run thing and Cameron had to bribe the Liberals to help him seize power. Let's face it, the first thing he did was bring in the five year minimum turn, so that's the mark of him and considering he doesn't have a mandate to do all this bullying, which would be inexcusable anyway, is a further mark on him. Labour did not win in 2010 because of the global crash of 2008 of win the tories tried to pin on Labour and are still trying to do to this day.

That said, the public have realised what the score is and I very much doubt the tories will be in the running in 2015 despite all the bribes the will undoubtedly throw at the electorate. People are not that thick, they can see through all the media spin which is happening. Even their followers are trying to influence public opinion over the Internet, but sometimes it's difficult to indentify genuine Conservatives on message boards etc because they are very few in number. Most of the seemingly rightwingers are not Conservatives but just nasty little trolls, which appear under many aliasses, and have no political persuasion what-so-ever. I mean, just look at some of the comments on here, to see what they're about.

All that putting in extra bands does is in crease the administrative costs of collecting the taxes.

not really, decent payroll software should be able to cope with it and if you do payroll by hand the tax tables will take care of it all.

5 minutes recalibrating an excel spreadsheet.

He's finally said something about his ideas for a budget.

Introduce mansion tax on houses over 2 million quid.

With the money made from this, reintroduce the 10p in the pound tax, which he said will help 25 million working people.

He reckons it will make 2billion. Seems optimistic to make that much. It would mean 80 in peoples pockets if it works. Minus of course the amount to introduce 2 taxes.

Also bringing back 50p top band

Mansion Tax - nicked from Lib Dems.

10p tax rate - scrapped by Labour

50p tax rate - proven to not raise additional revenue, an ideological tax

So nothing new from Milliband, is this guy really meant to be leader of the opposition? Is he giving anybody any reason to vote for them yet?

All rates of tax are ideological, low rates reflecting a neo-Classical liberal ideology, higher rates being more socialist. Its a shame you are not capable of spelling Miliband-no wonder your search engine reveals a low level of support! You have been researching an impostor.

And that might carry some weight if we had a PR system. But we don't. And in our current system of first past the post the Tories didn't win enough seats to win outright. That is the only fact that matters.

Conveniently ingoring the fact that borrowing is now at record levels, the debt is at record levels and the much vaunted attack on the structural deficit has utterly failed.

Be honest. Neither party has one iota how to run the economy, or how to get us out of this mess.

We've seen two things. Labour overseeing an unprecedented and strange experiment in light regulation that allowed a massive debt bubble to form. The Tories allowing the bubble to stay inflated and conducting their own unpredented experiment in an austerity that doesn't actually cut very much but somehow manages to get us deeper in the mire while ignoring any measures that could help promote growth.

What a decade it's been. Maybe in 10 or 20 years we might be out of it but one thing is for sure it won't be with the policies of the current Labour or Conservative parties.

Careful. Posting figures will have you labelled as a right wing troll :D

As they say, everyone knows figures are all made up to suit and argument.

That’s right they didn't win enough seats but they did win, they got the most, came first, beat the others, didn't come second or third, first past the post, more people wanted a Conservative government than wanted a labour government, whichever way it is said they won, but they didn't win by enough hence they formed a government with another party and this government represents more people than any government before it.
