Pink2Bubble
Sheffield Forum made hard work of their first league game of the year but managed to take all 3 points. Liam Wales returned to the side and Nathan Jenkins was restored to the starting 11 after being on the bench last weekend as Jason Bowden was a late inclusion in the squad following a midweek injury. Following the terrible weather, Herdings Park was out of use this weekend but we had the opportunity to keep the game on by using Graves Park. Forum looked to build on recent performances and take the game to Holly Bush but it turned out to be the opposite. In a pretty dire first half there were hardly any chances for either side. Holly Bush notably hit a shot a yard wide of the post and Sheffield Forum had a header cleared off the goal line but it was a game where Forum struggled to play their own game. Half time: Sheffield Forum 0-0 Holly Bush Forum leapt out of the blocks are the start of the second half as some fluid passing saw them move forward quickly but couldnt quite get that end product. Forum were now very much on top of the game and picking everything up in midfield so it was rather against the run of play when Holly Bush took the lead. A corner swung in from the right hand was disappointingly met, for the second week in a row, by a free head to direct the ball over the line. Half an hour left and Sheffield Forum pushed on, now chasing an equaliser instead of a winner but it just wasnt happening for Forum. Daniel Sheedy had several shots which failed to test the keeper, Jordan Gladwin had 3 shots blocked and Joe Neate narrowly headed over the bar. The first substitution was accompanied by a formation change as Forum went 3 at the back in favour of pushing players forward. Jason Bowden add to the shots on goal with a powerful strike only for it to head straight to the keeper. As it looked like it wasnt to be Forums day, their first slice of luck appeared. A free kick was floated into the area, first attempt stopped by the keeper. The goal mouth scramble then saw the ball poked home for the equaliser by a Holly Bush player! It didnt matter...it was a goal and Forum were level. 10 minutes remained of the game and Forum kept pushing knowing only 3 points would do for their push in the league. 6 minutes later, they snatched a winner. Again, the ball bounced around in the area and captain Shane Middlebrook was the first to react as he hit his 17th of the season to give Forum 3 more valuable points. The few remaining minutes were played out with ease except for a Holly Bush charge with 30 seconds left but the free kick was eventually dealt with before the final whistle blew. Sheffield Forum still sit in third place in the second division with 6 games to play. Promotion is still very much the aim as we face Manor Social next weekend on Handsworth Rec. Team: Smith, Z Crownshaw (Proctor), Griffiths, Baugh, Jenkins, Gray, Gladwin, Neate (C Crownshaw), Wales, Sheedy (Bowden), Middlebrook. Unused: Appleby, Gill.
