To All Dog Owners..

There's a big difference between a slightly headstrong dog that decides it won't be recalled this time, and a dog that might bite someone.

People who don't like dogs have a right not to be pestered by them, but equally dogs that aren't dangerous have a right to be allowed off the lead.

I'm sure everyone could manage to behave like an adult and live and let live.

When a dog runs at someone, they can't tell whether it's just headstrong, or, if it's a biter. Either way, the dog is out of control and should not be off the lead.

The dog only has that right if it's trained and can be controlled by its owner.

Hear hear! Some people are just looking for a fight I fear.

Everyone has a right to enjoy public space, and as long as your dog is not aggressive there is no need to keep it on a lead all the time.

You have to remember that dogs are not humans. There will be times when their animal instincts take over. So yes, dog owners you need to be responsible, but other people - if you don't like dogs you need to be responsible too. Don't get all whiney if my dog wants to say hello. They can sense your nervousness. Just stand still and wait for the owner to come and collect - the chances of the dog wanting to bite you are slim.

However if you start running around hysterically the dog is going to react to that, and that's when it might get a bit excited and nip you.

As I've just posted - yes people can't tell, but the chances are it will be a friendly dog that's just pleased to see you. If you start running around wailing the dog will think you are playing.

Who are you to make that decree? It is only an offence for the owner and/or the person in charge of the dog to allow a dog to be ‘dangerously out of control’ in a public place.

Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (section 3)

If a dog is dangerously out of control in a public place:-

(a) the owner; and,

(b) if different, the person for the time being in charge of the dog, .

is guilty of an offence, or, if the dog while so out of control injures any person, an aggravated offence, under this subsection.

I have a large dog who wouldnt hurt a fly BUT he's 3 and still very giddy, specially round children, and just wants to join in everything lol, he has a powerful wagging tail which is face hight to a small child and could really hurt. So despite my confidence he wouldnt hurt or attack, when I have him off the lead at Rivelin for example, if I see or hear people coming our way, I always put him on it. Other people dont know he wont hurt them and it can be very scary for them if a huge bounding dog comes head on!

So have a little thought for the people who dont know your dog as well as you do and who maybe terrified at the mere sight of one of lead xx

I can get your point, but I am a recent dog owner, and quite frankly am getting a bit sick of people banging on about dogs being left off leads.

People moan about dog, but letting them off to train them and socialise them is very important for their development too. Or they will become unruly pets.

Providing people are responsible dog owners and clean up after them what is the problem?

I had a woman rip in to me and abuse me because my puppy went 10 yards in the vicinity of her daughter in a park.

She was making her daughter scared and nervous of dogs for no good reason - he is a puppy for heavens sake. Why walk through the park then?

I also had a woman jogging in the park hurl abuse at me cos my dog trotted behind her, shouting get down to him. Worried about getting her cellulite revealing karrimor running legging dirty. I would hope that the woman would wash her keep fit clothes after use, but hey, clearly she felt like she was the only one to have any right to be there..

So I have a bit of advice for all people 'scared' of dogs- Do not go to parks or in to the country, because, HUGE SUPRISE there are always going to be dogs there.

Not the Easter Bunny, fluffy kittens or people offering therapy for saddos who want the world their way.

I have come across many people who abuse dog owners for no good reason, and |I am sorry they just come across as weird.

Appallingly bad attitude. You really really shouldn't allowed to own a goldfish let alone a dog.

There speaks the voice of a true dog owner.

Could i just add to others if you don't like dogs then move your arses out of the way. We have as much right to walk in a controlled manner on footpaths and trails as you and your buggies and squealing kids on pushbikes.

Why should we be expected to move or stop and wait.?

Why oh why people want these stinking creatures at all is beyond me.

Seriously, what is the point?

It's your best friend?

It protects you?

Are there any more reasons to have a dog?

I'm sick of people who cannot control their pets, last thing ANYONE wants is some soggy, muddy, stinking mutt jumping up at them and leaving mud all over their clothes.

Disgusting!
