White groups facing unspoken racism in UK

Recommended Posts

Yes relevant in the sense that white people moving out of certain areas is the oft quoted reason that they are being "forced out"; when the reality is they chose to move to what they percieve as 'better areas'

Does the link say people are moving out of London or are you assuming that is the cause?

I saw this interesting question posed on another site recently:

Why are white communities the only ones that "need diversity"? Why aren't black, Latino, Asian communities "in need of diversity"?

The Thomas Schelling segregation model claimed that we need 50% of our close neighbours to be of the same ethnicity to create a homogeneous community. If he is correct it doesn't take a mathematician to work out this is impossible.

Yes the link provides an explanation of the figures. A quote from the link:

"The years between the last two censuses have witnessed significant cultural change in London, particularly in the outer boroughs. Some white British may have moved because their neighbourhood has been culturally transformed, the tea rooms and restaurants replaced by takeaway chicken shops and halal supermarkets serving the new arrivals.

But there is also a story here of white working class families that escaped from the slums and bombed-out East End in the middle of the last century, found new opportunities in London's outer boroughs and then, in the past decade - often having prospered from the housing boom and the capital's economic growth - cashed in their assets and bought themselves that little cottage in the countryside or by the sea.

It is a story of aspiration. It is a story of success".

Arh, I was getting confused between two things there. Yes it appears white people are leaving London, but the reasons can only be assumed. This does kinda leads into my third comment on the Thomas Schelling segregation model.

And a follow up,

600,000 move out in decade of 'white flight' from London: White Britons are now in minority in the capital

This is what the earlier BBC linked article also suggested, however the Mail being the Mail uses the opportunity to bash the BBC, and to put a negative spin on the people's move from inner London out to the suburbs.
