Claiming mileage

old trick of yours - change the details when pushed. Does anyone take you seriously anymore?

She was replying to this-

maybe if they got off their fat backsides and tried it for a short while an employer might see something in them and they will go further, the ones that show a bit of get up and go rather than a flat "no" because it costs a little more to get to work. yes the unemployed should take any job if they dont have one....its called a start!

You really have on knowledge of this world do you?

They offer to pay milage at the end of the year. You work for a year then they refuse to pay it. What you going to do?

You get a job as a in sales on commision only. If you're lucky enough to eventually make a sale, you find that the commision has mysteriously halved or they find some other way of cutting it down. You dispute it and get the sack - but they still get the sale. And there are plenty more where you came from. What are you going to do? you haven't been working long enough to be covered by employment law.

After 2 or 3 jobs like this time has passed, you've now got a poor employment history and no reference. So now all you can get is more of the same....

This happens all the time.

And, IMO, a damned good reply it was too.

I gave two examples of 'non jobs' ie jobs that target the unemployed and defraud them by paying less than the minimum wage because they know there is an endless supply of fresh victims.

They are encouraged in this by the vociferous opinions of people like Adam Smith, with their disingenuous claims that the unemployed 'should take any job if they don't have one,' suggesting that they know nothing of the scams out there played on the vulnerable.

you didn`t though, you simply gave another scenario not connected at all with the thread - you were asked to show the forum an example of your claim that people take jobs and because they are not getting mileage paid back are effectivly earning less than minimum wage, not go off randomly listing things that could happen

I would ask you to show an example for your second point above, but you would probably post a link to a picture of a cute kitten

No 'mate'. The post you quoted she was clearly replying to Adamsmith- hence why she quoted his post in it.

like I said - changed the topic when pressed for an example (again)

whats the chances of a link to an example.

You're always covered by employment law. So you go to tribunal, get the rest of your bonus, or your mileage payment and damages and then move on.

After this has happened a few times to a company they realise it's actually cheaper to just pay people up front.

Unless you have a written contract you don't have a leg to stand on, and trying to insist on a written contract again means you won't get the job.

Refuse the job and the JSA people will be on your back.

You can't win.

Take the job, insist on a written contract after 4 weeks, if you're dismissed go to tribunal.

Edit - It's obviously difficult to know if an employer is going to attempt to be abusive in this way, and difficult to deal with it if they are, but it's not completely impossible to take the right steps to ensure that you're protected as much as possible.

You mention the job centre for example, surely they can assist in making sure that there is a written contract.
