Need a job please can someone help me

Recommended Posts

I am 30 years old and have over 7 years experience working in various call centres doing a variety of roles inbound sales, customer relations, customer service, credit services etc.

I have just finished serving a prison sentence for drugs offences and am now finding it impossible to secure a job not necessarily because of my criminal record but because of the gap on my CV where i have been in prison.

Does anyone know of any organisations that are friendly towards people in my circumstances. Or maybe you have been through this experience? Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Good on ya for coming 'clean'.

My advice would be to be a little 'creative' with your CV. I'm not suggesting for one minute you tell out and out lies. Just be a bit 'creative'. I think if we all told the truth about our CV's we would all admit to being somewhat 'creative'. I certainly have. Big-up the qualities which are good, and play down the ones you're not so proud of. Creativity is the key.

Also, tailor your CV to each job you apply for. For instance if you lets say applied for a job in a warehouse. They're not really interested in you having a good telephone manner. It's not relevant to the job. But you may have good organisational skills, be a team leader, have a driving license which could feasibly assist in driving a fork lift (without much training). Think what the employer is looking for and what transferable skills you might have to assist you in that role, then highlight those.

I wish you all the best!

What did you do in your period in prison. Did you do any courses. If so put these on the cv, or did you do or learn any different occupations. Put these on the cv. You don`t necessarily have to say where these skills were acquired unless asked specifically but this will show you was doing something within this time without lying out right

This Thursday 28th at Grosvenor G Casino we are holding a recruitment/Careers day on behalf of first step trust.. we have the job centre on board and a variety of different businesses coming down looking for a potential employee

Do GCasino hire ex-cons?

It's a shame that after a man has served his time, he is still paying for his crime. It's a double punishment. I wish the OP well.

There will be a number of different companies willing to speak to you and try and help you out with the interview process.

Never put dates on your CV. If the employer wants to know them, you can provide the dates once you have your foot in the door.

If you ask me, you should go for some commission only sales roles. You have the sales experience and most employers are less stringent about who they set on as the roles tend to be on a self employed basis.

Good luck mate!

Get in touch with NACRO, they have training courses and know of employers who take on someone with a criminal record and will give you other support as well.

If you are signing on than ask Nacro to ring jobcentre and ask that you are refered to do the work programme with them.

Good luck and don't give up.

They are based near sidney street near to where the Niche club used to be.
