Charges brought against posters of 'Venables' and 'Thompson' images.

Recommended Posts

The Attorney General has started legals proceedings against a number of people who put up photographs online which purport to show what James Bulger's killers look like now.

I think it's a sensible move, designed to protect not only the safety of the killers, but also innocent people who might be at risk of violence. What do you think?

I know a few people who posted the said photos on their page. Highly irresponsible and damn right stupid, if you ask me. At least, it should make the plod's job easier :)

As for the story, I agree, it's a sensible idea which I hope stops this madness and saves a few people from being lynched

thats the problem with this online vigilantism being seen as a force for good by a certain section of the community

Some of the photos looked nothing at all like Venables would look like today, they were absurd.

The problem with the ones that do look like Venables also look like a few lads I know so even they could spell trouble for the wrong people.

Even if these pictures are of the right people, it would be easy for vigilantes to mistake similar looking men for them.

Exactly. Mistaken identity is all too common for the foaming at the mouth brigade. If they can mistake a Paediatrician for a Paedophile, who knows where it will end :D

Its odd how people never show this much vitriol towards Robert Thompson, wasnt he the most scariest at the time ?

I think its because Thompson hasn't been in any trouble since, got on with a new life and its been said he showed full signs of rehabiliation..if that's even possible after such a monster like act that they did.

Whereas Venables has told people who he is, and what he did. It was reported that he's been violent towards a partner and then obviously re-offendered by possesing child porn.

I think they should be left to live their lives with their real identities, to stop innocent men being wrongly accused of being one of the two.

Also for the public, I think we have a right to know who people who commit such crimes are.

That wouldn't stop other people being at risk. There would be a very real danger that innocent people would suffer. For example in the case of an arson attack, there's no guarantee that innocents wouldn't die.

We do have a right to know - and indeed do know - who committed the murder of James Bulger.

What people don't have a right to do is take the law into their own hands which is exactly what would happen if their new identities were revealed.

Its almost like your a support group for them!!!

The real danger is that people are being mistaken for these monsters.

A man took his own life because he couldn't go on having people mistaking him for one of them.

Why carry on protecting them?? To the cost of others. Venables had his chance at life and screwed up. Proving he isn't a reformed character.

So surely its best to say enough is enough, the chance was there and he messed up.
