Mrs Overall
With Combi boilers, are they worth the trouble? We've had one installed, 3 months ago, ok to start with but the pressure has dropped twice in 4 days... Looking at all the posts regarding this problem is it worth the upheaval of having one installed... We had a back boiler and gas fire removed due to age, but in the 14 yrs we've lived here we never had a problem, and it was warmer too! The temperature drops and stays cold for ages so we have to turn it up to get it to come back on again. Not very energy saving there folks... mike-s
A good well fitted combi is a perfect piece of kit. Dropping pressure generally means a leak.

We've had our water turned off twice in a week by Severn Trent, my hubby thought this may be the problem, but we asked our neighbour if theirs was ok they said they hadn't noticed any problem? mike-s
If there is a leak it will be from the boiler to the radiators or in the boiler itself. It only needs to be a drip for the pressure to drop in a couple of days.

I think you get more problems when Combi's are fitted to old systems, they work on higher pressure so old pipes and fitting might leak; Combi's also don't like crap flushing round the system. Better to swap the lot and fit a magnetron.

Sedimentit
I have had 3 different Combi boilers now. The designers tend to "oversophisticate" them, then use the general public as guinea pigs. Mine were fitted and removed free of charge.

Like you it was fitted to replace a 'proper' boiler and we have similar issues. It's been inspected twice now by two separate engineers, both of which have mentioned that they expected a bigger unit for a house of this size so basically it was done on the cheap by the landlord. fallinsta123
i find that combi boilers are alot better than the standard boiler
vwkittie
We had a combi fitted around 5 years ago in replacement of an old fashioned boiler and tank arrangement, it's been brilliant no problems at all. Much better than the old thing. I think you need to take it up with your plumber, maybe it's not spec'd up right for your house or something?
