UKIP and the Eastleigh by election - results now in

Nigel Farage was interviewed on BBC breakfast this morning and was asked whether they were just a single issue protest party. He said the voters of Eastleigh had voted UKIP because they were concerned about immigration and rules imposed by Brussels. He specifically mentioned the possible rules on bankers' bonuses but failed to go into details his views on whether bankers should only be able to earn twice their yearly salary as bonus.

He was then asked about his party's view on the economy and austerity. He responded once more by banging on about immigrants, the EU and foriegn aid.

That's it. Their whole economic and social policy framework - anti EU, anti immigration. Single issue politics.

Housing - immigration's fault.

NHS - immigration's fault.

Jobless - immigration's fault.

Deficit - EU's and foriegn aid fault.

A stuck broken record, but hey, if they prevent the tories from getting a working majority at the next election they may be good for something.

For a start the immigration guarantees a supply of staff at all levels. In addition the USA experienced high levels of immigration for 200 ears and it became affluent. In China internal migration has seen it record rapid growth. You have a fixed mindset like a "1984" drone.

Doesn't the USA also have the highest murder rate in the G20?

I'm puzzled by your term "internal immigration". Isn't that the same as folk from Wales going to work in Norfolk?

I wrote internal migration. Can you not read?Within China it is like going from the Urinal mountains to the hedonistic heights of Uttoxeter,as the different regions of China are in effect separate cultures.

UKIP got under 30% whereas Labour, Lib-Dems and Tories who all support staying in the EU got nearly 70% between them. That's hardly a resounding call for withdrawal from the EU especially when the Lib-Dems are massively unpopular at the moment. The Lib-Dems were the big winners. UKIP picked up a good protest vote but it needs to start winning seats locally and nationally to avoid being little other than a protest party.

I thought David Cameron had promised a vote on EU membership. So that would lump him in with the UKIP "get us out of Europe party". I'm not sure where Elvis and the others stand on the matter.

What's that got to do with immigration? The USA has a high murder level because of its poor gun control.

It is called a diversion-it is a bit like sating that the USA has high car-ownership.I think the technical term used by philosophers is non-secateurs.

OK. So internal migration would be like someone from Wales going to work in Norfolk. Thanks for the correction.

Why did you mention the murder rate?It seems a bit desperate almost signifying a lack of alternative points. Why not accept that migration can benefit economies.and then perhaps you will sleep better at night rather than worrying about nothing?
