UKIP and the Eastleigh by election - results now in

Not really "disgust" when the Lib Dems retained their seat though is it, just like we predicted. They're one of the "big three", along with the Tories, who still came third.

The UKIP vote is a protest vote against the Tories, but all UKIP is doing is pandering to the older Tories and their xenophobic (and recently shown homophobic) views. My local Conservative club has a "no women" room. What does that tell you?

The big question is should the Tories listen to the protest and pander to these voters, or stick to their guns and try and encourage more younger voters?

I remember talk in the early/mid 2000's of the Conservatives having to change to appeal to younger voters because their older voters were dying out and if they didn't modernise they faced a future as a minor party. The whole point of Cameron as party leader was to make that change.

It's a difficult problem for them. Ignoring their older voters who then switch to UKIP splits their current vote decreases and leaves Labour more likely to get a majority. Trying to keep them will alienate the younger/moderate voters compromises their support in the future. Given that we now know that coalition government can work in this country, it may result in them defecting to the Lib Dems - again splitting the Conservative vote and benefiting Labour.

The Conservatives' best bet is to encourage left wing Labour voters to become so dissatisfied with Labour taking them for granted that they form a new socialist labour party to split the Labour vote. ;)

Sounds like you are clutching at straws, why aren't we training our own instead of robbing other country's of theirs.
Then we aren't training enough or we would have no reason to rob others.

..and where are we going to get them from, the YTS queue?

This has always been my thought on the doctors and nurses in particular coming here. Their own countries have (presumably) borne the cost of training them, only to see them decamp to other parts once trained. Leaving their home country with a possible shortage of trained staff. Something wrong there,
Why is it wrong? Skilled and professional British workers have been taking their labour to the highest bidder for centuries.

when we are quite capable of producing our own.

But not in sufficient numbers to satisfy the demands of the NHS.

I remember that - trying to make William Hague look young and hip by photographing him at theme parks and wearing baseball caps. It was very embarrassing for all and just went in Blair's favour!

If need be where do you think other countries get them from.

Thanks but if you don't mind I'd prefer that my surgeon came from a nice ivy clad red brick university than plucked from a youth training scheme.

And what of those who come from underprivileged country's, I'd say you've just shot youself in the foot, see a doctor but make sure of where it comes from,

wouldn't want you mixing with the peasants.

Switzerland's 3 languages points to its position between 3 countries. The UK had many languages before immigration kicked in.

Isn't the USA's wealth down to a vast country who's new population exploited the countries mineral and oil wealth.

You seem to have an ability to select random points and ignore everything that doesn't fit into you neat little perception of the world. That is pretty much what the main stream parties try to preach, and is a message that many have realised doesn't actually stack up.

Immigration induces murder due to tension between the ethnic groups. You only have to look to the middle east to see how anyone who doesn't conform to the correct brand of Islam becomes a target for the extremists.

If you are developing an argument you need to be selective, and thanks for stating my views conform to the political consensus. It does look like you are adopting an extreme position, and have had to bring Islam into play for some reason. You seem to have a negative view of etnic groups.Would you say Australia has a high murder rate?Would you agree it has an ethnic mix?
