What's up with plumbers?

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine once booked a plumber to look at his boiler. The guy didnt turn up when he said he would, so a few hours later my friend went out to the pub. 4 hours later he gets a call from the plumber outside his house saying he is there to look at the boiler. My mate told him he was 4+ hours late and he had gone out. Plumber then gave him an ear full of abuse, so he hung up on him.

This is why foreign workers are coming here. They are not stealing anyone's job, they are doing peoples jobs.

You have little concept of how plumbers work.I often wonder what people like you do for a living as you seem almost perfect, and expect others to match your paragon-like status.

What? In my line of work, if I say I will be somewhere at a time, I stick to it and not roll up 4-5 hours late and expect the other party to have waited around for me.

You seem to be the very reason why we have such poor service in this country, you think you are better than the people who pay your wages.

if i arrange a time and date i expect the person to turn up, especially if iv had to make arrangement regarding work etc, why do people expect they can turn up when they like or not, if they r running a business surely they're reputation is worth everything as word of mouth can be very damaging, all day you see people on here asking for advice on services and getting replies of "dont use this one or that one" because of bad service, if im paying i expect good service, and rightly so, most people are reasonable if there seems to be a genuine reason they cant turn up but otherwise its just unacceptable, and for this i dont need to have a concept of how plumbers work as im not a plummer, i just want people to do as they say they will, n0t too much to ask i dont think

To be fair, I know that in some instances jobs can take longer than expected, a 5 min job could turn into half a day (I've experienced this in PC maintenance)

However it's usually evident that a job will take longer in the first 10 mins so as a courtesy I would call the later appointment, apologise and ask if it were possible to reschedule and explain why. At the very least it's basic customer care.

My bold=

Some are working a full days labour for £40 a day, so yes I would say some are taking jobs as they are undercutting.

We had a similar issue with our loo, turned out to be a loose/faulty valve where the water filled the cistern (inside the cistern). Could be something really simple.

That's exactly what was up with ours, he came late, but he was very efficient, nice lad and not expensive...

I've eaten my words...:hihi:
