What's up with plumbers?

Recommended Posts

if i arrange a time and date i expect the person to turn up, especially if iv had to make arrangement regarding work etc, why do people expect they can turn up when they like or not, if they r running a business surely they're reputation is worth everything as word of mouth can be very damaging, all day you see people on here asking for advice on services and getting replies of "dont use this one or that one" because of bad service, if im paying i expect good service, and rightly so, most people are reasonable if there seems to be a genuine reason they cant turn up but otherwise its just unacceptable, and for this i dont need to have a concept of how plumbers work as im not a plummer, i just want people to do as they say they will, n0t too much to ask i dont think

people can get delayed, and in my view should phone, but some dont.

What? In my line of work, if I say I will be somewhere at a time, I stick to it and not roll up 4-5 hours late and expect the other party to have waited around for me.

You seem to be the very reason why we have such poor service in this country, you think you are better than the people who pay your wages.

Thanks for blaming me for national failure-do you expect to be taken seriously?

There are good plumbers and bad plumbers. Finding the right one is the problem. A good plumber will carry out a simple toilet repair if that's all it is and charge you a simple price. A bad plumber will tell you you need a complete new toilet installed and just about every other fitting in the bathroom including the toilet paper holder :hihi:

Plumbers get a bad reputation because of the large number of ‘cowboys’ going around pretending they are qualified plumbers and trying to do the work of skilled tradesmen for cheaper rates. Before you book a plumber, make sure you ask them if they have the relevant qualifications and certification that is essential to carry out a good job, and that they have been employed or working in the trade recently and those qualifications aren’t out of date.

To be fair, I know that in some instances jobs can take longer than expected, a 5 min job could turn into half a day (I've experienced this in PC maintenance)

However it's usually evident that a job will take longer in the first 10 mins so as a courtesy I would call the later appointment, apologise and ask if it were possible to reschedule and explain why. At the very least it's basic customer care.

Completely agree!
